Calculating the current Moon…
A FIELD GUIDE
A little context for your sky
01 /
How to use this tool
The first result uses the current instant. Pick a date to calculate local noon in your selected time zone. Use the calendar to move through the month; switch the viewing orientation for a northern or southern hemisphere illustration.
02 /
What the result means
Moon phase is the Sun–Moon angular separation as seen from Earth. Illumination is the fraction of the lunar disk lit by sunlight. A waxing Moon is moving toward full; a waning Moon is moving toward new. The illustration does not predict local visibility or exact telescope orientation.
How we calculate
Astronomy Engine calculates geocentric positions in the tropical zodiac. Birth times are converted using a bundled IANA time-zone database. House geometry and aspect rules are computed separately. Supported input dates are 1900–2100.
